Sunnylands Farm Holiday Cottage – luxury farmstay holiday cottages on a working Dorset farm

Sunnylands, owned by Terry Ockenden and Vicky Spooner, is a small farm of permanent pasture used to grow fodder for local horses and cattle. Luxury farmstay holiday cottages nestle alongside a real working farm, providing the perfect escape in rural Dorset.

The farm’s old dairy, out of its original use since the 1960s, has been carefully converted into luxury farmstay holiday cottages – keeping the character of the building intact. The cottages are situated in the centre of the farm yard, with excellent views across the fields, and provide the perfect base for a quiet Dorset retreat.

Self catering holiday cottages Wimborne DorsetRun under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, wildlife is well catered for at Sunnylands, with untrimmed boundary hedges and sympathetically maintained layered hedges. Four copses of native trees and half a mile of new hedging have also been planted.

Not far from the holiday cottages, the orchard, restored with a dozen new trees to complement the existing stock of Old English apples, pears and plums, leads to a footpath which winds down the hill to the fountain in the centre of the beautiful village of Hinton Martell.

Animals on the farm include two rare breed Highland Ponnies (Fleetmead Euan and his sister Fleetmead Eilean), Cori the ex-race horse, two cats (Boots and Bubbles) and a flock of hens looked after by Valery the cockerell. Equine accommodation is also available, both stabling and turnout.

The perfect Dorset location

The farmstay holiday cottages are situated approximately 5 miles from Wimborne and are ideally located in an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) on the edge of the hamlet of Uppington, near Hinton Martell. On a clear day we are privileged with views across West Dorset and the Isle of Wight!
